The aim of this program is to identify and properly seal abandoned wells as they threaten groundwater quality as well as posing a serious safety concern. Funding for approved capping and sealing of said wells is cost shared between the concerned landowner, the district and any other potential sources.

Significant hazards associated with unsealed abandoned wells include:

i) safety hazards
ii) groundwater contamination
iii) loss of aquifer pressure
