ABANDONED WELL SEALING

The aim of this program is to identify and properly seal abandoned wells as they threaten groundwater quality as well as posing a serious safety concern. Funding for approved capping and sealing of said wells is cost shared between the concerned landowner, the district and any other potential sources.

  • significant hazards associated with unsealed abandoned wells include:

          i)  safety hazards

          ii)  environmental concerns

          iii)  groundwater contamination

          iv)  inter-mixing of groundwater

          v)   loss of aquifer pressure

The District will assist landowners in sealing abandoned wells through a 75/25 cost share agreement.
