Our Mission

To provide sound and effective soil and water management to area residents.

Company Profile

The Turtle River Watershed Conservation District #2 (TRWCD) is comprised of all or parts of seven rural municipalities (Alonsa, Dauphin, Lawrence, McCreary, Ochre River, Rosedale, and Ste. Rose). The district encompasses 2330.40 square kilometers or 233,043.19 hectares.

To facilitate local input and address resource issues on a smaller scale the district is divided into three Sub Districts:

    SD #44

    SD #45

    SD #46

Approximately 25% of the TRWCD exists within Riding Mountain National Park Boundaries.

The TRWCD was established in accordance with the provisions of the Conservation Districts Act which places the planning, management, and control of land, water, and related resources in the District under the jurisdiction of a local Authority. This authority, the District Board is made up of the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of each of the three sub districts as well as a provincial appointee and a Board Chairperson. This setup encourages local decision making at a grassroots level.

BOARD MEMBERS

Paul Brunel            Board Chairperson and SD #45 Chair

Denis Maguet       Provincial Appointee

Dave Smith            SD #44 Chair

Fred Lesawich       SD #44 Vice Chair

Victor Beasse        SD #45 Vice Chair

Joe Felix                 SD #46 Chair

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD

When the TRWCD was formed, the Board's first objective was to establish a set of management objectives under the general heading Land and Water. Other areas, such as fisheries, wildlife, recreation, and public education were identified, however objectives were not set out at this time.

The Board meets on a monthly basis to prepare and implement programs and policies that take into consideration ALL resources within the District. Funding to conduct these works is provided by the Province of Manitoba (Department of Water Stewardship), member municipalities, as well as a number of other external government and non government agencies that have a vested interest in the Conservation Districts Program
